Ok, here goes. 2001 xj. auto transmission

It had a 4" lift at one time but the PO dropped it back to stock before I bought it. He installed an SYE and different driveshaft. He also put a 1" TC drop using a thinner crossmember. I was getting alot of vibration starting at 45mph. I changed the front ds ujoints and installed a HD standard crossmeber to take out the tc drop. Still getting vibration. Do you guys think this is due to the SYE and driveshaft? How do I know if the angles are correct? I checked the face of the TC and rear diff using an angle finder, and they are close to the same plane. This is a DD, so I'm getting really frustrated with it. I don't plan on a lift, only slightly taller and wider tires on aftermarket wheels.

Please, please help. I keep hitting dead ends.

Default response to shaking issue

Now this is just a shot in the dark, but you may be looking in a completely wrong place. Have you checked your hub assemblies. And in the case you replace those you will need both. They run 260 for both front ones at autozone.I had the same issue in my xj and read this and said well hell its worth a shot right?

Yep, I thought about that too, but the vibration comes from around the TC to the rear. That's why it has me thinking that it is a driveline issue, but I know nothing about TC angles and SYE's. I know why people put SYE's on their rigs, but I don't know what effects it has on a stock xj.

Thanks for the reply though.

driveshaft U-Joints? That is what mine was - I thought I had bent the driveshaft but found the U-Joints were shot.

Ok, I'm starting to lean towards axle shims. Since it has an SYE and a CV driveshaft, I'm guessing the angles are out off. Now I need to find out what shims I need, an I guess I should change the u bolts while I'm at it.

Does this sound right?
