Still a steering/bounce issue!
Hey Team....
So I have had a crack at this before, but still having issues.
Issues being:
Old girl feels a bit like a boat
Shuttering when going over bump
If I turn it feels like it takes an inch back before it catches again.
Previous fixes/changes:
Sway bars + bushes
Damper
I checked all the bushes again and they look good and strong.
One thing I did notice (and don't know if it should) is the drag link and tie rod have play in them.... when I hold them and rotate (like using a throttle on a bike) they have a 1/2 inch play/movement in them - is this normal?
For me I am thinking:
Float = shocks
Shutter = ???
Lag = steering box maybe
Any help would be great team, thanks!

The Cure might help your steering dead spot.

If the front shocks are questionable, I would replace them.

I think I will try that on the old girl..... have you used one?

For your "lag", take a look at the tiny U-joint in the intermediate shaft between the end of the steering column and the steering box. I just ordered The Cure! after reading this thread.

I just ordered one too. Hopefully this fixes the lag.
After watching the video it makes sense.... I also called them and the guy explained what it does and it is exactly what I am dealing with. Worth a shot for $25
Cheers!

I saw a video on "Bleeping Jeep" and he installed it at the knuckle, but isn't it meant to be at the join in the tie rod and Drag Link?
I am also having issues getting the tie rod out from the drag, any tricks on this?

Mine is in the mailbox now, I need to go get it. That being said, I haven't installed yet, but yes supposed to be drag link to tie rod joint. As far as removal, if you don't have a puller, turn the nut backwards and run it just to the end of the stud. You can smack it pretty good with a hammer without damaging the threads.

Yeah I didn't want to smack it too hard and wreck the thread, but will go have a crack now.
Cheers!

This is one style, there is another
But it is considerably more expensive. I've always stayed away from pickle forks when I intend to reuse the component. In this case it may be OK because "The Cure!" is replacing the rubber boot. The puller shown in the first photo is readily available at any of the parts stores or Harbor Freight for 10 - 15 $.

I’ll get down to AZ tomorrow and get one.
What’s the issue with them?

Just beware the Harbor Freight one tends to flex when you really start getting it tight. I had to add a clamp to stop the ears from spreading out when I used it to get the pitman arm off. The trick with the puller is to get some tension on it with the puller, then smack the side of the joint with a hammer. Since you're replacing the boot, you don't need to be shy about adding heat either.
