My 89 xj has a problem with running. When started it will run for about 5-8 seconds beautifully. Then DIES.... When the vaccuum from the MAP sensor is disconnected it will start very rough and run but die when you give it throttle. A new vaccuum line and grommet are $45.00. I bought a new map sensor but that did not work. Anyone please help!!!!!!

Almost sounds like an IAC, but I forget if the XJ's have one of those....Maybe a TPS.
Those would be the first places I'd think about checking out... If you think it's vacuum, hit the lines/intake/etc. with carb cleaner til it runs better, that's where your leak is...

I beleive you have a Crank Position Sensor malfunction....this sensor is in the bell housing of the tranny and the wire runs to the top of the engine...replace it and let us know how it goes.
