Default Steering Wheel Sticky?

OK, just get all your jokes out. I can take it.

Anyway, 89 Cherokee with factory steering wheel. It's old so it has the skinny old school type. I like it so I'd prefer not covering or replacing. Last night was the first time it was cold and wet at the same time and I'm sure this is why it's in this condition, but is there a way to prevent it? Thanks.

The only issue I have with my steering wheel is when it gets real hot outside in the summertime all the black goop melts and squishes out of the holes in the vinyl cover. I hate that crap.

I spend the next 10 minutes picking the goop off while driving down the road and then the next 2 hours digging it out from under my fingernails.

This happens to my '92, usually only on hot days. I really hate that black tar ****, but I don't want a steering wheel cover.

It's annoying. I'm guessing it's some sort of jell leaking out? It's really some nasty crap. Almost tar like when it gets hot.

What's odd is mine happened on a very cold night. I would have almost expected it on a hot day. I guess it could be from the high humidity.

I'll try cleaning and the for mentioned vinyl conditioner and rejuvenator. Thanks.

That is strange. I picked up a bottle of googone and plan on using that the next time it starts oozing that crap out.
