Default Ignition Cylinder Replacemnt

I am trying to resolve a problem with my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

I put the key into ignition. All the bells and whisltes work, but I cannot turn the key.

I have tried and successfully moved the steering wheel in both dirctions, but still no luck getting key to turn.

I had this problem in 2003 and had a new cylinder installed.

Is this a common problenmm with this part/vehicle. Seems ridiculous to have this re occurring.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks....richard

Also, how do you post a enw issue on this site. I simply edited my old issue to post

You need either a BIG HAMMER or a tie rod end or pitman arm puller (they are real cheap at autozone). I use the tie rod puller cuz it's so easy. When I didn't have that, I took off the drag link, flipped it over and put it on a block and then POUNDED it one time and it popped out.

when i did my stabilizer a few weeks ago it took 2 or 3 minutes of hammering away at it with an air chisel to get it to pop out. when i did the one on my GF's jeep it took even a little bit longer. so spray with pb, let soak, and hammer away!

I just took mine off tonight and used a 2 jaw 5 ton puller from autozone took about 10 minutes and it pops out of there like a SOB! and it sounded like something was broke but it worked!

isn't that a bit overkill to turn an ignition key?
