Default Steering linkage question

I'm sure this has been answered, but I can't seem to find a thread on it.

I've got a 96 xj 4.0... picked it up about three weeks ago. Haven't done a whole lot to it yet (way to cold and to much snow), but I am going to have to replace a couple of tie rod ends pretty quickly. Only one end is what I would consider "bad", but another is questionable and the rubber on everything looks cracked and dry rotted, so figure I might as well replace everything while I've got it all apart.

Thought I would up grade to the ZJ tie rod while I was at it. For everything else, are there any recommended kits that will give me all the tie rod ends, drag link, track bar, and adjusting sleeves? I've found several online but don't know enough about the quality of different manufacturers, and most of the kits come with some, but not all of everything I need, so looks like I'll still have to pick up a piece or two, depending on which kit I buy... or would I be better off to just piecemeal everything from a particular manufacturer or two?

I am going to have to put a lot of money in to this jeep over the summer, so don't want to break the bank, but not sure on the quality of the bargain bin stuff.

And while I'm on the subject, can anyone tell me the torque specs? I think I read 45 foot pounds for the tie rod ends, but just double checking since my memory is truly amazing, but incredibly short. LOL

The link in my signature, Round 2 Parts Page, has a listing for all the steering linkage part numbers at the auto chain stores. This includes the ZJ tie rod.

I sourced everything brand new, mainly for the lifetime warranty. And I have used that warranty many times at AutoZone without any questions asked.

I don't see a need to upgrade the tie rod to an "HD" one if the other components are remaining stock. The ZJ tie rod will work just fine. Any questions feel free to PM me.

Thanks for the info. That is a really cool build thread. I like the lifetime warranty, but sounds like you had to use it pretty often on those TR ends.

Relatively new to wrenching and not being very familiar with Jeeps... is it common for them to go through TR ends that quick?

I'm lifted at 5" or so. The drag link is at the maximum right now, so any articulation on the front will cause premature failure.

Basically my steering is keeping my front end from flexing. The TRE at the passenger knuckle is almost maxed out. Few trips with it and I end up replacing the drag link. Gets annoying after a while though. Firestone has a lifetime alignment too, so I haven't paid for a part or alignment in 2 years.
