My '94 Jeep has quite a bit of play in the steering. I'm thinking of removing the power steering gear and adjusting it per the Factory Service Manual. It looks to be reasonably simple once the gear box is out of the vehicle.
Anyone here ever done this ? An exchange/rebuilt box is only about 140 bucks........

I've done several of these in their GM incarnation. (It's a Saginaw box)
There are two adjustments, the sector shaft preload (on top) and the input shaft bearing. You have to pull the box to do it right, which the FSM will explain. Might help, might not, depending on what's worn.
Watch the "rebuilds", often they aren't any better than what you have.
