Well after hearing a strange noise when the kids pulled into the driveway and not checking it out get the call from school parking lot. "Yeah, you Jeep won't steer."
( yeah feel like an idiot and extremely lucky father. obviously the man upstairs does watch out after children and fools)
Notice it's my Jeep when it breaks.
Anywho, yep all the bolts on the steering box snapped clean.
Had it towed home. Yanked off the box. Worked my a$$ off to get the bolts out, but did so without nothing more than PB Blaster, big pair of Vise-Grips and ALOT of elbow grease.
Have ordered the JCR Offroad Spacer/Brace with Hardware.
Got everything cleaned, up and ready to put back together.
Even painted the steering box after cleaning it good so no continued rust.
Did not have any leaks before this happened. Just a little noise up in
the front suspension which now must have been the spacer having broken up and the box jumping around.
The question is: What else should be replaced/checked?

My 88 had all three bolts sheared right off at the box, kinda sounds similar to what happened to you. Anyway what I BELIEVE happened was that the body around where the three bolts were mounted had cracked and was allowing the box to move and somehow bending the bolts to the point they broke. At the time this happened I had sold it to my friend and rather then finding a way to weld it or reinforce it he just sold it, so I dont know if or how it got fixed.
Basically I would check the body around where the bolts go through the body for cracks or something similar, and maybe try to figure out how it happened (if the way I mentioned is not the problem) so it doesn't happen again.
