gremilin checklist .. 93 xj HO .. just bought
sorting thru my gremlins, before i sell my daily driver xj
93 xj HO, automatic .. as stated before, word of mouth says rebuild or new motor at 100k .. od has 227k
I changed the oil 2day .. regular valvoline 10w-30, pure1 filter
while draining oil, checked tranny pan, each bolt took a slight 1/2 turn .. there was slight tranny fluid around pan
oil pan bolts were mostly tight, a cpl maybe took a slight turn .. rear diff fluid looks ok, was full, but will change it soon
front diff, couldnt feel any fluid on finger sticking it thru fill hole .. wow .. emptied a partial bottle of fluid in, still no feel .. no leaks obvious either <--- figure wait til I do the front u joints, so no wasted money/lube
transfer case had very low fluid, but wasnt empty .. I had enough on hand to drain & fill it up
took it for a drive. felt different than yesterday after new exhaust .. shifting was a little high on RPM
question time:
whats best way to tell if 4x4 is engaged when it shouldnt be ? or going in /out on its own
a slight wining as if was on, hard to tell w/ no snow .. I did engage on a strait street for 1/2 block, definatly engaged, could hear crappy u joint clickin, and hear driveshaft under feet. seems sometimes moving from a stop, it has that wine sound .. could that just be the trans ? fluid is ok there
i took a cpl vids around motor .. hopin what im hearing is just the pulleys at work .. theres not any lifter tap (as my 90 does sometimes), exhaust seems steady, sounds good in rear
