My solution: 2 sets of wheels, cheap steelies to wheel on with re-treads, and nice alloys with some AT's for DD. Im saving the $$ for this solution.

That's seriously what I'm looking at doing right now. I just need the money for the 16in ATs

so.

the tire blew out, then broke the rim... on... pavement.

relevance?

every comp rig in XRRA, WEROCK, whatever runs alloys.

We where runnig 60 on a main highway and took a turn when the tire blow and the wheel smacked the pavement.

Not a bad idea. The best of both worlds.

that is extremely relevant to wheeling and this thread then, thank you.

What? Someone can post something as fact on here...and it doesnt have to be proven?

What is there to prove? His statement? Just thinkin out loud here.

I have seen just as many steel rims bend beyond repair as i have alloy ones break.

Steel... It may be heavier, but I just like it better, and as mentioned before it will only bend and dent... Though alloy may be very strong it CAN crack as i have seen this happen to my friends trucks when he smacked them up against a huge rock...

No need to lock the thread. Good tech debate is healthy and I agree one should not make claims of fact if they do not provide proof. How ever I will say some need to chill on the attitude. If you can't debate and behave like and adult you need to move along now.

CHIF8008 06-04-2009 11:23 PM

get steel(IT DONT BEND!!)

i like black steel :]

I've destroyed both steel as well as alloys, no real preference other than alloys are rounder and take less weight to balance. I'm also more of a 4-wheeler rather than a rock crawler. It's more the 'look' you like.

Alloys have a good look but i think are a little too common (talking about all cars here). I just like the steel look, i think they LOOK tougher on a jeep.

still 50 50 wo wo

Well for me steel all the way for a wheeler .. I have personally broke alloys and bent steel wheels .. the steel wheels U can take a hammer to em and make it home and it cost U what 60$ to replace? Alloys if they break albiet rare leave U stranded .. the nice Alloys IMO run 200$ or greater and I just don't have the cash to replace em always on hand if I happen to break em. I can always afford to have a hammer in my rig!!

think of it this way,

take an aluminum beer can, and smash it against your forehead.
now take a steel can and smash it against your forehead.
once you regain conciseness, you'll realize steel is real. :brickwall:
