Is it leaking?

 

Not that I'm aware of. I can throw a piece of cardboard under it. The dash gauges are fine as is the coolant spillover tank. I have not needed to add any coolant since changing out the radiator. But the steam is coming off the very front of the hood - above the radiator. There is no steam off the hood from the center of the hood to the windshield.

 

That makes sense. You're going to be more likely to see vapor when the hot water evaporating off the hood hits cool, dry air than when it hits warm, moist air. It's the same as seeing your breath in the cold, but not in summer. This is a similar concept.

When I worked in television, one of the shots we used to try to get when we covered fires in the winter was steam coming off the firefighters when they pulled their helmets off. It looked dramatic, as if the guys were overheating. But it was just sweat evaporating in the cold air. You can get the same image off a high school football player on a cold Friday night.
