Tbone,Thought I should let you know that the Dune series have been discontinued. Doesn't mean they're still not available and at a reduced price. If you buy from Morris 4x4 they'll give you a discount on certain items if you mention your a member here.

Did you use the OEM isolators plus 3/4" spacers up front?

Teraflex 3/4" spacers only up front. I'm at 19" from center hub to flare in front, which should be exactly 1.5" over 17.5" stock. I haven't had any issues without the stock isolators.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Black Rocks! It looks like Summit still has them as well, but I'm actually considering the Type 8s in the same size anyway. I like the matte finish BR uses.

Mine is stock as well. I have Crown rear springs (you can find them on Amazon). They raised the rear up a bit, probably an inch or so over stock. I also have Monroe Severe Service shocks which ride pretty good.

I will respectfully let T-bone explain it because you quoted him on this. But it is the one mod to seriously consider. It may keep you from needing a highlift jack when you go out in the boonies. lol

Is this a necessity for an everyday driver or mostly for hard core off roading?
Although I can see it in use in my mind for the snow.

It's great for any off-roader or combination daily driver/off-roader. There's really no use for it in a dedicated daily driver, IMO.

You've probably figured out by now that most of the regulars around here have off-roading on the brain.

There will come a time when you will wish you had. It's an advantage to have traction to both wheels sometimes even in a daily driver. The problem with "open" highway rear differentials is that sooner or later you will get in a position where you have to cross a ravine at an "Angle", and it might even be one not that deep. Where you are going to get stuck with two wheels spinning taking you no where.

This prevents that from happening and is just as important in a daily driver road car as it is for off roading. The "angle" thing is the problem, almost every car will get hung up in this situation. Every 4X4 should come out with rear traction limited slip or lockers from the factory, so just think of it as something they forgot to install but should have.

I'm putting one in my road jeep because I have already got stuck a couple times like this and now realize it is a necessity for any car.

In the past I've never considered one. But then this XJ is the first 4x4 I've owned that doesn't have a limited slip rear. So far so good but I'd feel better with one.

Thanks! The info is in my sig:

Moog CC782 variable-rate coils with 3/4" spacer (no spring isolator)
Crown HD leaf springs

I really like this combination. The coils are comfortable on the road and flex well off-road, and the Crown HD leafs do a much better job of load handling than the OEM springs.

A while back on this forum one of the members stated "why just replace when you can upgrade." That is sort of the rule I follow with my Jeep. When I replace a part, I try to find an upgrade that will improve the Jeep, not just find the cheapest replacement part.

Well said.

I said something similar in a thread a few days ago, "think improve, not preserve". Jeep did a great job with the XJ, but there are many opportunities to improve on worn-out parts that don't break the bank.
