Default Starts fine runs for 2 min. Shuts off

Hi all. My Cherokee Sport(2001) starts right up runs like a top for 2 min and quits. If I let it set a while it will start right up and do the same thing. Fuel pump seems ok as well as all the fuses and relays that pertain. Any info would be great. Thanks

Do you have Sentry Key Immobilizer System in your XJ?

Yes it does. If it were that wouldn't it just shut down. It sputters to a stop. If I feather the gas petal I can keep it running for a few mor seconds. Thanks guys.

I take that back. It does NOT have a sentry system. It does have remote start. The keys are not the programmed type. I can hear the fuel pump start when I key it.

Spray starting fluid in it right after it shuts off see what happens.

Thanks I will give that a shot(no pun intended). I'm not sure the wife is going to let me work on it today.

Not sure. The fuel line is new. As near as I can see the top of tank (pump/filter) looks newish. I'm trying to get ahold of former owner or mechanic to ask.

Correct, there is no inline filter. If it had one this might be easier. If this were a 64 - 390 or 289 it would be running by now. I have lost touch with auto repairs over the years.

Crank sensor replaced last winter. I am not able to check codes. I did see a scanner at tractor supply ($20) wasent sure if it was worth it

if you have a smart phone you can get a blutooth or wifi obd2 adapter and an app. No need to buy a scanner. But if your CE light is not on probably won't be any codes in there

CI light not on. This is frustrating for me. It runs great for 2 min. I would like to rule out all the simple stuff I am not sure where to start. I have checked fuses and relays, the pump starts when I key it. I'm not sure or know how to check or test sensors or what else I should be looking for. I do appreciate the help. Thanks
