Starts fine but thoughout day constantly needs jumping
New here. I'm a caregiver and I travel to and from homes of the elderly. I have a 92 Jeep Cherokee Laredo. 6 months ago I had a major tune-up and a new clutch. Everything has been going fine until a few days ago. Jeep started but after going to 3 homes (for about an hour each), then needing to head off to the next home, she needs to be jumped in order to start again. I have a brand new battery (3 days old), and I'm still having this problem. Does anyone know what this could be. Had testing done at Auto Zone and they said she's getting a good charge. Need advice ASAP and thanks so much.

Check battery connections, check the starters connections. Did they pull the alternator to test it? Sometimes it will read that its good but really not be. Their machines only do pass fail which isn't always the best.
Battery - 12.65V, starter - 11.22V and alternator - 14.50V were checked. They said that was good so I took their word for it.

Did you actually pull the alternator off and have it tested or did they just use their little diagnostic tool? I suggest actually pulling starter and alternator and having them bench tested

If it's running after pulling the jumper cables off, the alternator is doing its job. That 11.22 volts at the starter, is that while cranking, or the static voltage at the big terminal?

It was running after the jumper cables were off. They tested the starter voltage both running and while turned off. So far yesterday and today there have been no problems with it starting so go figure.

i have checked with autozone before for a similar problem and it keep coming out good then i started to replace things that had warrenty and the alternator was the culprit it would charge right but a diode in it was blown causing it to give me the same symptoms you described. i second taking it out and having them test it.
She has been doing very good the past couple of days and then died again. Mechanic says he thinks its the starter, so...a new starter is going in tomorrow. I swear I felt like torching her...LOL.
