1995 Cherokee XJ. It will start up for 2 seconds and then die, does this repeatedly. Is there anything else that can be causing this besides the security system?

Yep. The fuel pump ballast resistor.
You can just bypass it to verify.

I do not appear to have a fuel pump ballast resistor. At least if I do it's not mounted where it should be.

Look around a bit. They weren't in the same place year to year.

There is no fuel pump ballast resistor. I'm getting plenty of fuel, you can even smell it like it's flooding after several attempts to start

Ballast resistor was my first thought too, but a 95 shouldn't have one. If it's not the security system shutting it down, it's possible the fuel pump is weak and the pressure falls off very quickly after starting. You'd need to borrow a pressure tester to look at that. Some of the auto parts places loan or rent them out very cheap.

Fuel pressure is good. Where is the security module on a 95 Cherokee?

It's in the computer. Is the security light showing on the dash? Try putting the key in the drivers door, then turn left, right, left and remove. (at least I think that was the sequence to reset the security)

Is is the VTA control module actually the PCM on the driver's fender under the hood?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the security alarm is built into the PCM. I'm assuming this doesn't have an aftermarket alarm?

Where are you located?

If it was an export model and 97+, I'd say it acts just like my engine immobiliser...

Yes it is an aftermarket alarm but I cannot find a module for it anywhere so I will have to assume they tied it into the PCM. Also the VTA relay is missing. I am located in Wilmington North Carolina.

My lights do not flash my horns do not blow but the motor does not start like I said it starts for 2 seconds and dies starts for 2 seconds and dies. Everything I've read tells me it is in the security system. But I cannot figure this aftermarket system out.

Ah, that changes things. Gotta be some sort of brain for an aftermarket setup. Wires spliced and maybe relays added somewhere.
