Default Starting Problems

I have a 91 XJ and having problems with it starting, it chooses when it wants to. When I first turn the key it acts like the battery is dead but then winds up. It will continue to crank. Just replaced the distributor cap and rotor. Code 41 came up after replacing those so I replaced the ASD relay and still nothing. Once it starts everything works fine. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

check your wiring harness connections (Battery -starter- alt) even 1 corroded battery terminal connection can cause that, disfucntioning selenoid? but you say it does crank?

hmm, wouldnt hurt to check plugs, also you could get a sparkplug tester and while the spark plug is out check for compression.

A code 41 is usually related to an alternator problem. Verify that the output of the alternator is in the 13.5 volt to 14.0 volt range with a meter directly at the battery.

Always review tuneup status. Fresh Champion plugs gapped to .035, new plug wires and fuel filter in addition to the new cap and rotor you installed.

Freshen your engine grounds. Often overlooked and critical to the electronics.

I tested spark and it was weak so I replaced the Ignition coil, spak plugs, and plug wires. Started up a couple times easily but it sat for a little. Went to start it and didnt start. Seems like im having problems just on cold starts. Any ideas?
