Starting Problem??

I have noticed latley when I have got into my jeep to start it, somtimes when i turn the key over it will make like a free spinning noise like and then click. let it do it turn my key back off and then start it again and it will start.

Today it started fine drove it 5 minutes down the road turned it off got back in and went to start and had nothing but the free wheeling sound like the starting is spinning but doing nothing and would not start back. I beat on the starter numerous times and it would crank for a sec then make the noise. finally after beating on the starter it started.

So i thought it was the starter doing this, but i got in it tonite after reading some post and it starts fine in nuetral and also in park somtimes after starting it in nuetral.??

Could it still be the starter or does it sound more like NSS ...cause my reverse lights still work.
