Starting issues
Whats up all? So the past few days my 2000 xj would take just a little longer than normal to start. A month or so ago my truck went haywire on my way to work so I had the battery and alternator tested. Battery was just ok and the alternator tested good bad bad good good. So I replaced the alternator. Forgot about the battery until this morning driving to work my check gauges light was on. I look down and the voltmeter is reading the lowest number. I pulled over shut the truck off and it wouldn't restart. So I thought it was the battery just replaced it and still won't start. It cranks like it wants to start doesn't struggle just doesn't fire. All the lights came on radio and other accessories after I put the new battery in. Just wanted to know what else to check.
Thanks
Thanks

Checked cleaned freshened and tightened connections. Still nothing. Even with the new battery when I turn the key to on the voltmeter only reads like 12. What would cause this?

Yea I moved onto that but couldn't find the plug end up in the engine bay. Looked online for like 45 minutes and couldn't seem to find it.

Can anyone with a 2000 take a good picture of where the sensor plug is? I couldn't find it for the life of me. I'm pretty sure I found it down by the tranny but no luck in the engine bay. It would be a huge help! Thanks all for your responses and help so far!

OK just got home still same nothing. Thought maybe the battery was dead so I tried to jump it still the same. Voltmeter went up to 13 but still not running. So I found what I think is the cps traced the wire and it goes to a plug from there the wire goes over the tranny to the passenger side of the truck. From there it looks like it goes into some other wires into a bigger plug. I guess I can get to the plug under the truck and try to get my tester in there.
But before I go nuts would a bad cps start I was able to drive like a mile then check gauges light came on then I noticed the voltmeter drop. Does that sounds like a bad cps?

K so I read through that check list and tried a few quickies. Fuses good. Turned the key heard the fuel pump. Pressed the valve on the fuel rail fuel shot out one spurt then nothing. And another note when I turned the key to on voltmeter all the way down again interior lights dim and this was all after I tried to jump it for about 20minutes. I'm about to just bring it some where which kills me to do. Also side note fuel gauge went from 1/4 tank to 1/2 tank which is apparently a cps symptom. But why would the battery drain?

Because of the constant cranking??? My only thoughts. The fuel gauge being related to the CPS is beyond me but I would still say at least go to the junk yard and pick up a CPS. Is it a PITA to do absolutely but it'll be cheap and I bet that is your problem!

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I found the cps from jeeppartsdept.com for like $54. Which I think is a good price for an OEM unit
