Default Starter troubles.

OK so today I thought my starter went out. For the past couple weeks 30% of the time when you tried to start my jeep the starter would not turn over the engine. You could hear the solenoid kicking, the voltage would drop way down and it sounded like it was hitting the flywheel. My solution was to take a wrench and manually turn over the engine a bit then the gears would mesh and it would start. Today I did this for about an hour but to no avail. I pulled the starter and tested it and it is working properly. What other things would cause this? Thanks in advance.

weak battery, bad grounds, corroded battery cables, dirty starter....
Have the battery tested, clean engine and chassis ground connections, check battery cables for corrosion and repair or replace as needed. Lastly, renew or replace your starter.

Battery tested good. Took the starter to advanced auto and they said it works but the solenoid is hesitant. When the starter works it starts up great. Already refreshed the grounds last week.

I can tell you from recent experience that a starter that "tested" ok on the bench would not turn over my jeep. Acted like it wasn't getting enough electricity to turn over the motor. I replaced the starter and now it turns the engine over with no problem..every time.

That's what I'm thinking. I took it out, cleaned it up and reinstalled it and it didn't do squat when I tried to start it.
