Default Starter problems?

I have a 96 Cherokee Sport with a 4.0/AW4/NP231. I went out to move it, truned the key and nothing. My first thought was a dead battery, it's a Optima red top, so I put the charger on it and it read like it's dead. So I let it charger for 35-40 min, tried it again and nothing. Could it be the starter? I don't even get a solenoid click, just dead.

will it start if you jump it?...if not then it could most likely be your starter...do lights and gauges still work when you turn key?...or is everything completely dead?

dash lights work, radio works. The battery was dead after only a week of sitting, charged it up and still the starter does nothing. I am going to swap the starter with one I know works and see what happens
