Angry Starter problems?

Hello so i have a 1994 jeep Cherokee sport 4.0 it has been driven every day now for about 6 months with no problems. this morning i went to take my son to school and nothing. battery is good checked all relays/fuses tried jumping it but nothing. went to check the starter and it was covered with oil. so i did the screwdriver trick touching both bolts to make it spin. i got out from underneath and it started but now i need to do this every time any suggestions?

check the battery cable leads. look for corrosion or a bad ground wire.

Try pulling the starter and clean off all of the oil. Make sure to clean where it mounts also. All of the oil can cause it not to ground properly. I had mine do the same thing. Once I cleaned the mounting area it started right up without a problem. Since you need to pull the starter it won't hurt to take it to the parts store and have it checked out also. Hope that helps. May should also clean ALL of you other grounding points while your at it. And not just the ground at the battery but all of them. Let us know what the outcome is once you have taken care of that.
Welcome to the forum.

If you've got oil on it then there's probably oil in it gumming up the electric contacts inside, especially the cap. I did this and prolonged the life of my starter. Just be careful not to lose any gears and there is a tiny ball bearing in there too.

Like I mentioned in my earlier post make sure to clean all of the other grounds too. You also have the one on the oil dipstick, Battery to the fender, rear of the head to the fire wall, the connections at the alternator and the ones at the coil and of course the battery connections. Just one bad ground can cause a lot of strange problems.
