LOL...thx Diesel.
Also, forgot to add my fuel mileage update above....
Filled up yesterday again......went 228 miles and still had qtr tank, so i figured it was probably good for another 50 miles or so.
Still CPS?

Also your fuel mileage is crap which is probably due to the CPS. But after that gets replaced it wouldnt hurt to do cap, rotor, plugs, wires, IAC and TPS for fuel mileage and overall maintenance.

I just went nuts on my 89 xj trying to figure out a similar problem. Changed the following in this order: Fuel filter, CPS, TPS, O2 sensor, Map Sensor., removed and cleaned my injetors and fuel rail, Finally I hit it with the Coolant temp sensor!Runs like a dream now. Its a cheap $20. sensor. Im glad I did all the otherones anyway. I just picked up this XJ and she has 177,000 miles on her. Rather have those sensors that end up gicing you problems changed anyway. I forgot to mention I first did a full tune up, wires, plugs, cap. Also all new Vac lines because they all turn to mush after a few years especially with high miles.
Good luck. It feels good when you finally find it.

Had that problem, but mine is a 99 with an automatic. hard to get started without holding the peddle down ,then once it started had to feather the peddle while putting it in drive and braking to keep it going for the first several block. Try some Lucas Oil Fuel Injector Cleaner when you fill up, every other tank. Haven't had a problem in 2 years. Good stuff.

Is this a sign of possible failing coolant temp sensor?

the sensor he is talking about is hte one that sends info to the ecu. not sure if they are the same on your model but i believe i have one for the ecu and one for the gauge cluster on mine.
also, check to make sure your engine ground is good/clean and the connection on your sensors is solid and clean

Well, I picked up a couple bottles of Chevron Techron yesterday. Gonna hit the highway at lunch, get gas, and drop a bottle in. Before i start shelling out cash on sensors, I wanna test this out.
I never had one sensor fail on my old 96 XJ. I was very good with maintenance and cleaning on it, so maybe that had something to do with things.....who knows.
The minor cleaning I did under the hood seems to have made a slight improvement as I have had no stalling issues (elect grease on some connectors, quick cleaning of t-body). I still have a slightly rough idle, but nothing that induces stalling, so hopefully the Techron cleans up the rest.
As always, I will report back with updates.
Thanks!
