New here, and got my first question. I just bought a 99XJ with 7.5" rubicon lift, dana 44 and dana 30 with 4.88 gears. It was pretty cold out yesterday, but I stopped and sprayed it off anyway and now I have a sqealing sounds that seems to be coming from the driveshaft towards the transmission. It only starts squealing when I give it gas. I did grease the back u-joint last night and still got a squeal. Any ideas on what it could be? Thanks for your help!!!

Positive it isn't the belt. It only starts when I get moving. When in park and reving the motor, everything sounds fine. When I start to move and press the gas, it starts squealing.
My buddy just picked up an XJ, and it does the same thing. It will drive you nuts!! We have not had a chance to check it out yet. He might get to it this weekend, and if he finds it, I'll post up what he found.

my 88 was doing that so i figured it was a bearing in the idler pully when i changed it out, i stuck the old one on my finger and spin it and what did you know it was rough and noisey it's only about a 25.00 $ part and about a twenty minute job i then just backed my belt off a little bit and it stopped.
just a suggestion

I just don't think it is coming from the front. Seems like it is coming from the rear driveshaft. I will check it just to be sure though, thanks. Anybody else?

when its squeaking take a gander at your voltage gage make sure its not the alternater bearing shot making noise....n check every thing out with the belt n its path.....make sure its not dry rotted it can be slipping and your eye wouldnt ever catch it

the only way the driveshaft would do that is if the u-joint in ur driveshaft is worn and your hearing whats left of the needle bearings in the bearing caps talking to you

mine still has alittle squeek but it's in the low rpms. under load. think it's just needs to be loosen just a bit more. plus my alt gauge is ready a little over 14 volts. before it was only reading alittle above 9. it sucks when you have tojump start almost everyday.
my alt started making noise when the bearings went bad but it was a rough loud noise, not a squel...

does it still squeel tho mine is a belt slip sound but like the loudest i have ever herd a belt or bearing which ever noise haha......n see i turn mine over...it will sit like sickly low on voltage sometimes below the 9vs and il actually get the red check engine dummy light.....but after it sits n idles a bit it will like slowly work up to operating volts n then stop....obv mine is the alternator i just dont understand why it will eventually get the volts....it just sucks because if a load hits it or if i idle at a red light it'l drop n start screaming.....who knows....so many other things to fix first...if i could get it rebuilt i would consider but i cant see replacing it to oem when eventually il have lights and a winch so obviously need a dry cell and a high output alt and i hate to have to do it twice ....ne ideas let me know..
