Default the squeaky wheel

My Cherokee is making a squeeking noise whenever the engine is running. I sprayed some water on the pulleys and the water pump pulley when sprayed causes the noise to go away. The belt appears to be tight. This water pump was replaced a year ago with one that a transmission shop had laying around.

I am thinking it has gone bad. A search of rock auto shows that the new water pumps don't come with a pulley attached?

If this is to be replaced I plan on changing out the upper and lower radiator hoses as well as a new belt. Any brands to avoid? Good brands?

Since you need to anyway, I'd start simple and cheap and go from there. Do a new belt and see where that gets you. Goodyear Gator Back is the best thing you can put on these things.

If I remember correctly, the belt has to be pretty damn tight to keep it from squeaking. I was surprised when I changed my belt out. Maybe you'll get lucky and that will fix it.

Yes, much less tight with the Gatorback on account of its design.

I had similar experiences and long story short, I run the Gatorback on everything I own.

Use the $5 tool from Harbor freight and you'll know exactly.

I installed the gatorback belt, tightened it to about the same level as the old belt.
