Here's how I tell which pulley is squeaking,

Open hood

Start jeep

Use wd-40 to grease each pulley

Grease each pulley until the squeaking stops

Replace the pulley

Mine is not a sqeaking pulley, its a slipping belt. Does it when I first start it or when I turn on the AC. Ill have to look for that tension bolt you were talking about. Does anybody have a picture of the belt tensioning bolt for us Cherokee newbies?

Thanks,

There it is...just don't over-tighten it that'll screw you up too!

Quote: Mine does this only when the ac is one when i start it. I suspect loose belt and or compressor about to go. Just havent had time to investigate.

I had the same thing. My clutch went out on it.

In the end... if your clutch goes, you're better off just getting another compressor. Chances are the compressor is about to kick the bucket too.

Go to advance auto and put this code in : VISA (or) BIG50

VISA knocks $50 off of purchases +150
BIG50 knocks $50 off +200.

Since you'll have to have the AC replaced you're going to want someone to have it installed for you. Have them evacuate and charge it since you can't do any of that yourself. It's better, and supposed to be, left to the professionals. AC is not to be messed with by us shadetree mechanics. It's against the law.

Getting them muddy is what causes the bearings to burn out, thus repeating the cycle.

However, it's an inevitable part of life for us XJ'ers.
