Spun bearing need advice.
Hey everyone! I am new to the forums, but I am looking for advice. I was given a 97 cherokee. The 4.0l inline 6. They guy that gave it to me said he spun the bearings and I was curious to see how other would approach this. Do you think it's worth replacing the bearing or just save up for a long block? Also if anyone has had the same issue and replaced the bearings what else did you have to replace? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I just replaced all my mains and rods, one of the rods was snapped in half, fired it up and had same knock as before... Ruined $130+ in bearings.
Lesson learned : measure the journals.
But I would absolutely rebuild it.
You can get a crankshaft (already polished/ ground) and full bearing set (main and rod) for $125 shipped.
It costs $150-200 to have the crank turned.... And another $120+ for bearings. So the price is incredible.
And if the bearings spun I'm assuming your crank needs redone anyways!

On eBay the item number is 515651715012513
He ships them separately, and you have to tell him year / standard or 10 over when you order.
Also his tracking number won't work, but he does ship ( he has FedEx pick them up )
I got mine about 7 days after ordering, and the shaft was ground very well (was cautious and checked every journal)
Make sure you check for wrist pin play, cam play, cam lobes, piston damage etc... While you're down there, it is VERY agitating to rebuild it a second time because you take a shortcut lol.

You could buy a complete, used engine for about $500 & not have to mess with the rebuild.
That would save a lot of time & hassle.

You'll be pulling the transmission either way, crankshaft was easier to do than replace the engine again IMO, and cheaper.
He also sells just the shaft for $75

Thought about going that way but around here the cheapest I've found is $900 for one with close to 200000 miles on it. So was looking at either a cheaper fix or just spend the extra 600 for a reman long block
