I've done spray paint on tail lights before and it looks absolutely horrible. Basically, it goes like this, if you want them to look like you painted them yourself then use spray paint, but if you want it to look like they were professionally done, use a product like VHT. I have used both VHT and Duplicolor lense tint, and I personally prefer the VHT. The Duplicolor lense tint was dark and hard to keep uniform where-as the VHT is simple and easy to use with great results. I would recommend the VHT to anyone without even having to think about it.

I used VHT on mine and didnt sand at all just cleaned them real good and held the can like 6" away and they came out lookn like they had clear coat and they have held up to a good bit of Georgia red mud.
