Default split header?

Hi there! I just got my son a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4.0 in it. Was looking to run duals on it but I cannot find a split header for it. Can find it for previous years and 1997 and up but not for a 1996. Will the one for a 1997 work? Thankd

That 96 should be the 0630 head which continues until 99, so it's got the common center exhaust port. As long as the split header is mounted on a one piece flange, it should work. The 2 center exhaust ports are not divided in the head so they must be covered by a flange or they will leak. That's the best I can do to tell you.

Look at the intake side of the head between the valve cover and the manifolds where there's a flat part of the head and near the center it should say 0630. It might be under a heat shield if it has one. It's on the part where the head bolts are.

The header is one piece across the mounting plate it just breaks it into two exhaust leads instead of one. Heard pros and cons of duals on a Jeep, mine is just for looks. Thanks for the info Dave!

You might also want to check on the Grand Cherokee page, since you gave a GC.

The main problem with running duals on a jeep is where to route the driver's side pipe and muffler since the t/case is in the way. I had enough problems running duals on my Chevy 4x4 because of that, but I had a lot more room to work with.
