Default speedometer not working

I have a 1992 XJ limited and the speedometer started bouncing and stopped working. I do not have a cable. Any ideas what can be the problem.

I took it off and cleaned it up and put it back on but still not working. It might just be the sensor gave up.

make sure you have it lined up correctly. There are gear numbers on the connection. You have to line up your gear number to the small nipple on the output. Look at the picture above. You can the small nipple on the output and the gear number range on the connection.
