speedo/odometer doesnt work?

speedo/odometer doesnt work?
Like it says my speedometer isnt working. When I floor it and get up into the r's the speedo creeps up, but when it shifts it goes back down to 0. All the other guages work so I was thinking maybe the speedo cable is screwed up? Anyone know what could be wrong? Thanks

There are many posts on this if you do a search..among other things, could possibly be loose connection at the back of the speedo behind instrument cluster, or loose/bad/corroded, etc vehicle speed sensor.
