Hey I noticed I haven’t posted in here since my last xj years ago and decided to give it a try because I’m stumped! I have a 98 xj 4.0 ax15 that I have from what I think slowly bringing back to life. It had the cluster that no one likes with the huge gas gauge instead of a tach in it so I changed that out to a newer cluster with the tach on it. My problem is my speedo isn’t working properly. It worked before the 3.5 month process of building it up and now it’s been a back and forth fight to figure out what the problem is..

so I added a advanced adapters SYE and a Tom woods ds triple checked everything and reassembled the 231 back the correct way and when I did test drive it which was 3.5 months later the speedo worked for a few miles and just died… I tried moving things around and checking grounds and nothing. When I drive it it works like normal for a few miles then stops then when I go to slow down it turns on again and when I get on the gas it drops out again. Then sometime after it doing that it’ll just drop out and not work for a while and then got back and forth working and not. So I have done the gauge test and it’s working properly. Checked all the grounds under the hood portion and cleaned them all up and inspected wire’s everything is fine “I have the jeep cables kit” i have replaced the Vss as well and I have the Vss clocked correctly as far as I know lol and still on and off also I have checked the speedo gear and it’s still fine and I have check the teeth on the output shaft in the t case as well I called advanced adapters and he said it shouldn’t have any play up and down but a tiny bit side to side is ok it’s solid the joker doesn’t move so I’m stumped and was hoping someone on here could give me some advice? I was told that the connector to the Vss could be the issue as well? I tried searching and a-lot of looking through threads and couldn’t really find anything I haven’t tried already? If I’m posting something in the wrong spot or just straight up dumb that’s my bad I just need some help from the xj peoples!
