Default Speedo gear problem

I have 31" tires and 3:55 gearing, decided to adjust my speedometer so I pulled out the gear to look which one I had. I have a 34 and need a 32 but since I don't have the 32 right now i put back the 34. My speedometer seems lagged now and much more off then it was before I pulled out the gear. Any ideas why? I made sure the little notch was aligned with the number saying 32-39.. I wiggled it around and such but nothing has changed.

Tomorrow i'm getting the new gear but the gear doesn't seem like the problem at this point.

Take a look at the housing...
The gear is not centered.

This is so larger or smaller gears can be used.
Like was stated above..there are lines.
Clean the housing real good with some brake cleaner and you should see numbers also.

Line up the appropiate number "range" with the line on the transfer case.
Put the retainer on and make a slight adjustment to the housing so the retainer lines up with the "notches"

You should be good.
