Default Sparks from the starter

Hello I have 1991 cherokee 4.0l inline 6 with a 5 speed. My starter has been giving me 1 click and nothing...sometimes it starts...I noticed sparks the last time it actually started. Battery is good....I've been removing the battery cables frequently lately as I have just replaced the alternator. Any ideas on what I can do to get this starter working again ?

check and make sure the connections are nice and tight on the starter.
also, you might want to remove them and clean them up nice with a wire brush. you MUST remove at least the battery ground and isolate it (i usually stick my cable ends in a work glove) just to keep them away from touching a ground source.

Sparks indicate poor/dirty/loose connection.
