Spare tire cable bound up

Got a flat the other day and changed the tire in 4 degree weather. When I was done I was too frozen to hoist flat up under the jeep, so I just threw it in the back and cranked the cable up. Now the cable is bound up because there was no pressure on the cable when I cranked it up. Any ideas how to get it unbound? Thanks.

If you can't hang some weight on it and get it down then you may have to pull the bed to gain access.

Sounds like a 2006 GC. If so, the Grand Cherokee forum might be a better place for this thread.

How did you come up with the year? lol

Is that the only year that had the crank up cable?

His profile says an '06 Cherokee so I'm guessing he has the Euro version of the Liberty or meant grand Cherokee, as i know my mom's 2010 has a cable hoist.
