my buddy has one on his old parts jeep. they are really quite flimsy for large tires, and they hang below the bumper just enough to get slammed on rocks.

wouldn't last one day on the trails around here.

I was thinking why not just use the 2" reciever hitch as a mounting point for the spare??? You could fab up something like the piece that holds all those moutain bikes. Just come out like 3 or 4 inches from the hatch at the reciever, then strait up with a hub type of deal welded to the end of it. I mean granted, you will have to take it off every time you open the hatch, but IMO its better than droppin a grand on a swing out tire carrier/bumper...anyone ever try this before??

i'll ask him. but shipping from canada might be pricey.

i think it might need the bumper as it's reinforced for the carrier.

You could just make it so it swings down. I've seen them like that somewhere before......just can't remember where.

that is beautiful. I have a buddy with a fab shop at his disposal. I wonder what he'd want to make me something along those lines.

The HitchGate Receiver Mounted Tire Carrier looks cool as it moves sidewards for complete access to the back of the vehicle...
