Post sounds like a backfire inside my airfilter box? 1993 jeep cherokee.

This is a 1993 2.5L with a manuel trans with 188k. I recently purchased the jeep from a good friend who was upfront and honest about the condition and history of the vehicle. It had been stored in his garage for three years. The only good thing he did was empty the gastank before he stopped driving it. I have replaced the radiator and hoses, water pump, belt, plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, thermostat, oil and filter, fuel pump and filter, altinator, starter and battery. All wires and vacume hoses seem to be in good shape . The idle is perfect and she starts right up. When I give it gas @ higher rpm it hesitates and I can hear a loud poppng sound coming from the air box? Please help.

No engine light. It was on when I first got it. It won't make it to get coded with all the bucking and puttering it does.
