Just paid off the jeep. So I was expecting this to happen. Two more things - aside from the cooling problems I'm having: I have a vibration when driving slow up to about 55 mph. Front u-joints replaced, new tires rotated and balanced. Drive shaft maybe?

2nd - When I turn the jeep off it sounds just like the engines being shut off an airplane. That's the only way I can explain it. Like its winding down before turning off. For this - I'm clueless.

Any ideas?

 

This is a guess, but have your check the fan clutch.. that would be the only moving part after the jeep is turned off. do you know if its an engine noise or a part noise? Maybe a video of the sound will help?

 

98jeepsrt6, well the fan clutch leads directly back to the cooling problems I'm having. I'm thinking I need to start there. I'll try to post the sound. Thanks for the input.

 

If you can spin the fan fairly easy then your clutch is bad.. There should be some resistance when you try to spin it. So yeah start there and keep us posted.

 

Do you have an electric fan as well? I can hear when mine kicks on, it's quite loud (due to the air movement) and when I shut my XJ off while it's on, I hear it slow to a stop and it kind of sounds like that.

 

I forgot about that thing, good call. i eliminated clutch fan and installed 2 new fans..
