Below my blower motor definitely allows water in. I tested. It’s a fact.
I was going to do what everyone else does: seal the blower motor. But I wanted to dig a little deeper. I pulled the wiper cowl and dumped water in. Water leaked into the interior from below the motor. But when I looked inside where the wiper motor and air intake are, the water hadn’t made it to the passenger side of the compartment below the cowl; it was coming into the engine bay. It never made it to the air intake.
I noticed that the water was coming in through the seam that runs along the top of the firewall. Sure, I could patch up the blower motor, but if water isn’t supposed to be coming into the engine bay from above, to me it makes more sense to fix where the water is making it’s way into the engine bay instead of sealing the motor.
The motor leak is a symptom of the problem: water leaking into the engine bay. Hopefully I’ve fixed the problem and not just treated the symptom. I did the same test a few hours later by dumping water into the wiper cowl and there is no water in the engine bay nor inside the cabin. Hopefully it’s fixed! I poured water in here and it leaked into the cabin BEFORE it ever made it to the air intake The water comes in along this seam Water RTV on the seam
