Default Is some front disc brake play ok?

My 97 has been making a clicking/popping noise a lot, especially on turns. I popped the wheel where its coming from off to see if I could find play in the ball joints or u joints, and I found my caliper is slightly loose. So I wanted to confirm that that is not the culprit before I start messing with the ball joints more. No current problems with brakes.

afaic, the caliper is bolted very firmly to the arm, and in no way should it move at all, due to the amount of force exerted upon it

2 bolts and its off

Hard to tell from that video. The caliper needs to move on the slide pins, but should only be able to move in the direction. Any twisting of the caliper is wrong.

What did the mounts look like when you took the caliper off? Were both bolts tight and in good shape?

Sorry but I couldn't tell from you video since you move the camera around so much. It looked like the brake rotor moved.

Hard to tell too much from the video but:
1) the rotor would be able to move like that with the wheel off.
2) looks like a huge amount of slop between the pads and the rails. Might want to pull things apart and see how deep the wear grooves in the rails are

3) Popping noise when turning is a traditional universal noise. Might want to check both sides

<snip>

Oops. Mine is 2wd so the rotor and hub are 1 piece. Wobble on mine indicates a bad wheel bearing.
