Default Some advise on 8.8 swap please.

Now that I have the 8.8 . Before I do the swap I wanna have every part I need ready so I can do all of this in 1 day.
I understand the axle with is a little shorter. Asked my other buddy that did the swap he said had to get rims with a different back spacing.
I measured from hub to hub and compared the difference with my old D35 and it's 2" shorter which would make the wheels sit in 1"

I was thinking maybe spacers and longer wheel studs. Maybe the wheel studs that are used for drag racing because they obviously take alot of punishment from high HP.

Also I wanna regear as well the D30 in front to.
I have a 5spd with 33's right now I have 3.55's I was wondering if 4.10's would be good and was thinking about using RichMond gear but some people are saying they are no good for off roading but have no explanation why.

And if I do go 4.10 do I have to change the carrier in the D30?

Thats all I can think of right now. I'm not worried about the brakes yet just the critical stuff first.

Thanks Guys

Sounds like you know what your doing, I can't think of anything to add except for the parking brake cable and brake lines. Check to see if the lines on the 8.8 will thread into the xj hard lines, or replace them would be even better.

Here's the parts I use (for people on a tight budget) or make your own if you have the tools

For wheel spacers the best value Ive found are these rough country spacers, probly come in different sizes too, but are only $60 unlike most $120 ones

Summit Leaf spring mounts $12, like $20 shipped(unless you want some anti-wrap ones)

Barnes 4wd Shock mount tabs $5 per shock

Oh and for the gears, you will need a different carrier for the 30, and I have never heard richmond being bad for offroad. Richmond is a quality brand and I don't think the axle can tell whether your drag racing or rock crawling, if they can handle racing they can handle crawling is my thought

Yea this is also my dd I'm on the highway alot so I wanna be able to cruise at 70 mph in 5th gear with out the motor screaming at a high rpm but have a nice crawl ratio on the trails in 4L .

So new carrier for the D30 I'll find out who makes one thats not gonna self destruct

On my 8.8 swap, I used the Explorer spring perches(just flipped up), used the Explorer U-bolts/nuts and even the plates(cut shock tabs off), and finally I used one of the Explorer swaybar mounts as my shock tabs.

I'm also using Motive 4.88 gears(but I have 35's and an auto). They seem fine. Had a lil' noise from the rear, but it went away about 200 miles of driving.

4.10s or 4.56s will be about perfect for running 33s with a manual transmission. I would probably go with 4.56s, but I really like low gears for crawling, and I live where I do a lot of mountain trails and rocks. If I lived where it was mostly flat and did mostly mud I would maybe do the 4.10s.

I think to many guys just assume everyone does the same kind of wheeling and so everyone should set up the rigs the same as their rigs.
