Well after doing some research on the various clunks on my 96 Country. I was able to figure out one and repair it. Well kinda... I had the classic bowling ball, dried up slip yoke. Well after I bought my XJ. I noticed I had no boot just ends of a boot. And I could tell obviously some kind of lubricant had to go on my DS their. So some quick searching I found a how to on how to grease the slip yoke. So I went out and bought some marine grease and a shock boot from NAPA. Dropping the DS was a breeze. Much easier then I imagined. Got it greased and put the boot on. Then re installed the DS. The boot looked like it was meant for it.
While I have a couple probs with my XJ it's currently my DD. So I am keeping an eye on every bump, squeal, and shake. Well while going 65mph down the freeway. I start to hear a very loud vibration sound, kinda like a loud buzzing. Coming from under my shifter. Crap I knew it had to be my DS. So I pull over and hop under the jeep. One of the zip ties I used to hold on the boot came loose, and the boot was flopping around at a high rate of speed.
So I cut it off and made my way home.
So my question, what can I use that will hold better then plastic zip ties. The auto grade zip ties I used last 2 days. I've found while searching steel zip ties that need a special tool, or CV boot clamps, that need a special tool. Really don't want to a buy something for one little job. So what are some other options? Hose clamps maybe? Seems like HC would make it unbalanced.
Any ideas? Thanks
