Default Sniping off the keyless entry module?

Hi all, long-time listener, first-time caller.
A couple of weeks ago my instrument panel went out so I replaced the fuse, but it kept busting, after doing some research and trying some things I determined that I had an issue with the wiring harness, I do not have the willpower to even try to fix an electrical problem. After resigning myself to either driving with no gages or selling this thing I had a REALLY stupid idea (which sometimes are the best ideas), what if I went up on the fuse? So after getting home from work I pulled out the dead 7.5 and put in a 30, it, of course, didn't bust, but the little black dome on the roof started to smoke, pulling it down the thing is toast (image attached). After doing more research on here I determined the little black thing is the receiver for the keyless entry. As far as I know, the car has never had keyless entry. So calling my dad for guidance, he said to cut the thing down and isolate the wires.

Would that work, do I need to do a pass through? The manual has no mention of the keyless entry model on the fuse page.
FUBAR

Thanks for the help.

What year is your XJ

I dont know when they started but my 96 has one

best bet is buy an aftermarket remote entry kit

download the service manual and use the wiring diagram to install a new one

or, as you say, if you dont use it ever, cut the wires and tape them to avoid shorts

dont overload fused circuits, 30A will fry some wires, can start a fire

It's a 93, we just cut the thing of and isolated the wires. I know it's very dangerous to over load a fused circuit but danger is my middle name, it was a last ditch effort to figure out something that was progressively pissing me off. How ever it did point me in the right direction of the problem.

Grand anger management.

Just watch for the smoke to pinpoint the issue. And if still not clear, watch for fire.

Dont ever do that again. You may ruin the harness, destroy wires that are not on the faulty circuit, if those wires are in the same bundle. You may fry boards, burn computers and control modules, cause hundereds of dollars in damages. Repeat... Dont ever do that again. Now say after me...Dont ever do that again, one more time.... dont ever do that again.

my 1990 has the remote entry thing. Laredo trim level.
