When I started the build on my 93 cherokee it had a snapping and popping noise when the steering wheel was turned, You could feel the pop thru the frame and floorboard. It sounded like metal stressed. When I installed the long arm lift I replaced the ball joints and track bar and still had the noise. I jacked the front wheels off the ground and felt of the steering box as the wheels were turned and it felt as if the gears in the box were broken so I changed the steering box. Still have the noise. I took it to my mech and he just called and said it appears to be comming from the frame but there are no cracks or stress marks on the frame. Any one have any ideas???

 

Did you change just the track bar or the track bar MOUNT also?

The track bar mount on the drivers side is loose most likely. have someone turn the wheels with the jeep on the ground and you looking through the wheel well at the track bar mount.

if it moves when it pops ( usually a few millimeters or so) thats your issue.

My new control arms were doing that. They get loose for some reason and pop and bang under hard braking and turning.
