Smoke out of steering column
Hi folks, so today I had lot of smoke coming out of the steering column. Today morning it felt little tight while turning left and after driving for a while I saw the smoke. Horn stopped working after that.
I’ve replaced the clockspring recently and used the impact gun to put the steering back didn’t torque it.
Any suggestions how to back track this?

I know fords are different, but my 79 Mercury had smoke coming out of the steering when we used turn signals, cruise was especially fun... it was a wiring problem. my hubby took care of it by rewiring the thing completely.. I don't have cruise but he isn't done yet.. he had a snafu get in the way. but I can use the turn signals again..

Need year to refer to schematics, but IMO you have to rip the whole thing apart to check the extent of damage. Check the fuse boxes to see if any blew. That said, it seems like none did blow, so maybe it's on one of those big 40 or 50A circuits. When you smoke a wire the whole length melts so you should probably check the harnesses. Hope for the best but plan for the worst.
