So I failed my CA smog inspection due to the fact I'm running too rich which is throwing the test results off. 1990 loredo cherokee, 4 litre. Everything is stock and original, save the whole coolant system. Does abyone have a recommendation on how to get it to run leaner?!? I have 30 days for a free re-inspection, any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

O2 sensors. And clean your IAC.

And post your smog numbers when asking for help - ALL of them. Even the ones that pass are instructive (we don't need the "average" figured, but the "Limit" and "Measured" figures are mandatory...)

Move to Arkansas. We don't have Smog checks around here lol. I do remember running my old jeep like hell to get all the carbon I could out of it the mornings of smog checks in Memphis Tn.

 

Don't know about TN but MO does the idle test last I saw, Cali does the dyno driving the hell out of it doesn't always solve the problem (and most likely won't).

 

I agree. I just remmeber when I was 16 the guy at the testing facility told me to go drive the hell out of it for about 10 mins and come back and I passed. We have Zero inspections here in Arkansas

 

The dyno puts it through the paces if somethings not working or getting ready to go out it will tell you about it. You do have state D.O.T. inspections though, Cali doesn't(should but no).
