I'm curious if 15" wheels is the smallest that will mount on an xj. I found a set of 28x8.5x14 swampers I want to put on my stock xj, but will a 14" wheel clear the breaks/knuckle in the front? Need to know ASAP. Got a good deal on tires.
Thanks

Those aren't radials. They will have some evil handling characteristics on the street. They are also probably more than 6 years old.
I don't care if they are $1.00 a tire, I wouldn't consider using them. You would have to buy wheels, too even if 14s clear the front brake calipers.
Your Jeep would look like it's on roller skates. Those tires were designed for little bitty import trucks from the 70s-early 80s.

If you paid a $1 for them it will cost you 3x as much to throw them away. We have 15" tires on our side by side BTW.
You at least knew to inquire here about the tires before throwing your money away, good thinking! Another good thing to know is being able to read the dates made on tires as to how old they are also, lots of threads on how to do this.

Definitely check out what those tires are intended for, there's plenty of info printed on the sidewalls.
To read the date code look for 4 numbers, 4312 for example. That would indicate that the tires were made in the 43rd week of 2012.

They were bought intended to do a lifted subi. I was thinking of keeping my cherokee stock ride height and throwing these on em since it's my hunting rig and we've been getting into some rough terrain lately.
I don't know much about load ratings or anything. Here is a link in them new.

That was original price. Haggled down to little under 300 for em. For basically brand new tires. I don't know where you buy tires but around her that's a killer deal from my experiences
