Small metal spinning noise from T-Case?
hey everyone, Just got my jeep out of the shop. Redid both front and rear gears to 4.56 with 33's...coming from 35's and a 5.10 i believe.. feels great. and the 4x4 works now
Although they said they had to replace the gear oil in the T-case when they did the transmission gear oil ( some other work i had done while it was in there)
Anyways, when i'm driving down the road i hear a very faint spinning sound almost like when you barely touch the brake pedal and sometimes you can hear the brake pad against the rotor. So i put it on the lift at my shop to have my buddy look under it while I put it in drive and was spinning the driveshaft..
He says he can hear that sound coming from the U-Joint at the rear of the T-Case. But then we noticed that 2 of the caps were missing on the rear U-joint closest to the rear-diff. Creating some play in it and making a little noise if you shook it.
my question is is it the small 1/8" of play in the driveshaft causing the noise by bouncing in between the knuckle and i can hear it by driving..Or did they put the wrong gear oil in the T-case maybe its having a harder time turning gears and making a small winding noise. Maybe its something else?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Just dumped 5k into a car worth 5k haha

Change/or have changed both u-joints in the drive shaft. Use Sicer u-joints. Install new girdles and bolts on the rear diff yoke.

An eighth of an inch of play in a u-joint is a toast u-joint. Replace it. Make sure you use Dexron III ATF or equivalent in your T-case.
