Default Small leak

I have a small leak coming from the front of the rear diff where the driveshaft goes in. Is there a seal or gasket in there that I need to replace(sorry if I don't use all the right terms, I'm a wannabe car guy!).
Since I'm going to be in there replacing things is there any upgrades you would recommend? I don't plan to do much(if any) off roading but I would like it to be able to handle the snow from a Minnesota winter...
Thanks guys!

What year is your ride, put it in your profile.

There is a seal there. first thing to check:
Jack up the rear of the vehicle & secure with stands. Grab the companion flange (the part the driveshaft attaches to) and try to move it up,down, left, right. If it moves the pinion bearings are on their way out, hence the leak at the seal. What happens next all depends on how much you want to spend, and or replace.

Thanks or the feedback, I'll give that a try but it only has 39,000 miles so I doubt the bearings would be on the way out but you never know. Is it difficult to change the seal?
