The power locks on my 88 xj are acting kind of weak. They always click like they are locking and you can see them trying to lock but they don't always fully engage. If you flip the switch a few times sometimes that gets them to go. Its usually the rear ones that don't fully lock. It seems like there is a lack of power but maybe its a lubrication problem??

 

http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1874 sorry if the link doesnt work its my first try at it. anyway try this relay upgrade, before i did it only my passanger door would occassionaly unlock and lock on hot days and my liftgate would work after 2 or 3 tries. but after i did this all my locks slam open and shut with no problem.

 

The Greg Smith mod in the link above is the only way to go. I've done it on 2 XJs with excellent results.
