Hey guys. I found a tcu at the junk yard and they only charged me $10 for it. So i installed it and it had no affect. So i reset the computer Again hoping it just needed a reset. No go. I checked my tps and it's good. Also i checked the connections on the grey connector by the dip stick and could only get an ohm reading off the violet wire at 17 ohms i believe it was. So i started removing the harness however i can't figure out how to get thewires out of the side of the transmission.... Any input would be amazing. I'll post a picture of the one giving me problems in the morning when i get some light.. Thanks guys

Btw. Im trying to get the harness out so i can check and fix all the wires. I think there's probably some exposed wires somewhere but i can't get to it to get a good look

I give up. I can't figure this thing out and it's driving me nuts. So I'm just gonna get rid of it. Too many head aches..

i drove mine for a couple years needing to manual shift. didn't really bother me, other than it skipping 2nd and going straight to 3rd. i just had to get the revs up in first.

did you find and locate the inline fuse, under the passenger side dash knee panel? it's about 4 inches from the TCU. check that fuse.

ah, didn't realize they deleted it in the later years.

did you try a new/used TCU?

yea.. I put in a used tcu from the you pull it and it did nothing. But the one i removed from my xj seemed brand new even had an after market parts sticker on it. But i replaced it anyway.

i would probably go to the junkyard and pull another TPS just for another shot.

i know it's hard to believe that is what fixed mine, i was just as blown away when it did. didn't think it would have anything to do with the trans.

i learned it from a member here. don't remember, it was probably close to 10 years ago.

well, i ran the car without the tps hooked up and it drives way worse. Like its sputtering. So do you still think that's what out would be? I will probably swap it again but i can't spend any more money on it right now as I'm about to have a baby

Chris Lippold 09-05-2018 08:04 PM

If i disconnected the tps and it makes it drive way worse (sputtering and kicking, ect.) Does that mean my tps is good?

caged 09-06-2018 08:29 AM

i don't know to be honest. but if you can find one in a scrap yard, grab it and try that. i know the renix era jeeps are actually adjustable, but newer ones aren't, apparently.
